Basic Tang Soo Do Etiquette
Taken from the pages or our Student Handbook
- Students with questions should first ask their seniors to obtain answers. If they need further assistance, they should gain permission prior to approaching a senior instructor. The chain of command in training is important, and must be recognized.
Exercise/Training not only Changes your Body, it Changes your Mind, your Attitude and your Mood.
Keep Training, Keep Changing, Keep Improving!
Korean Word of the Week
Word: 겸손 (gyeom-son) Humility
Phrase: 겸손은 강함의 시작이다! (gyeom-son-neun gang-ham-e shi-jak-i-da)! Humility is the Beginning of Strength!
Diving Deeper: Humility means staying open to learning at every stage of your journey. No matter what belt you hold or how much experience you have, there will always be something new to learn and improve. It is being self-aware and knowing your own strengths and weaknesses, while continuing to grow with a positive mindset. This also means being willing to listen and accept feedback from instructors and fellow students. Everyone in the Do Jang has value, regardless of rank or age, where we all can learn something from each other. When we train with a humble mindset, we create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, supported, and motivated to improve. Having skills with no humility leads to an ego and an arrogant attitude. Stay grounded, focussed, and respectful so you not only grow as a martial artist, but as a person. True strength comes to those who are always willing to learn!
