Korean Word of the Week
By BKS Faith
Word/Phrase: 한 번 더! (han beon deo) One More Time!
Diving Deeper: One of the most common phrases you’ll hear in Korea is “One More Time,” as it not only expresses the action to do it one more time, but it reflects the idea that learning and improvement happens through repetition. Every time an instructor asks you to do it one more time, they are giving you another opportunity to improve. Telling yourself “One More Time” is important because it changes how you respond to training. Instead of stopping because it’s difficult or even stopping because you think you are good enough, you choose to stay engaged in order to improve. This helps you build the habit of pushing past the urge to quit early and to continue until you improve. When an instructor asks you to try it one more time, it is not because it was bad, it is because they know your potential and want to help you reach it. Progress happens through repetition and those small corrections that build over time. Sometimes it just takes one more attempt for the technique to finally click. If you decide to give up and not try it once more, you stop short of the moment where understanding is just beginning to form. Next time you are in class, at home, or at school trying a task and you want to stop, tell yourself one more time because that may be where it finally clicks and you succeed.
Challenge: Try to use the Phrase of the Week at the 도장 (Do Jang)! 가족!
