Sa Bom Nim Lindsay Update

  • September 8th, 2024 by Joslin Cameron, Organizer

I flew to Pennsylvania on Friday evening and spent time with Elizabeth that night and all-day Saturday at Forbes Hospital. Late Saturday afternoon, on the four-week anniversary of her accident, we received unexpected news that she would be transferring to rehab. While it was a surprise since she had only recently been in the Progressive Care Unit, it’s clear that her care team at Forbes is pleased with her progress and feels she’s ready to focus on regaining her physical and mental strength. This transfer marks a significant milestone in her recovery journey.

Around 7 PM on Saturday, Elizabeth was moved to her new rehab facility. I spent the day with her there today. She had a session with a physical therapist, which was challenging but she did great, even though it left her feeling tired. I stayed with her while she took a restful nap. Her pain levels are still being managed well, and I’ve seen tremendous improvements in both her cognitive and physical development. The rehab facility is emphasizing a “try to do it yourself” approach, which I believe is boosting her confidence and independence.

We’re optimistic about the significant progress we expect to see in the coming weeks. Elizabeth’s determination to get better continues to inspire me as she defies the odds and moves forward. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers this week, especially as she starts her new routine of three hours of physical therapy each day. Thank you for your ongoing support! -Joslin

It’s been a few days since my last update on Elizabeth, but I’ve been waiting for this special moment to share with you all. Today, for the first time in 35 days since her accident, I’m honored to bring you a message directly from my sister!

I just spoke with her, and she wanted to share her thoughts with you in her own words. The first thing she expressed, which has been on her mind constantly, is, “I AM ALIVE.” This powerful truth is what she holds onto every day.

Elizabeth also said that the support she’s received from her family, close friends, coworkers, students, strangers, her medical team, the first responders at the scene, and those who stopped to help—it’s all been beyond belief. She said, “I can’t believe this is real, and I am so deeply grateful.”

Regarding the financial support, she shared, “It has been overwhelming, surprising, and it gives me confidence knowing I have security at the end of this. I’m not someone who asks for money or financial help, but this has meant more than I can express.”

She wants everyone to know that while she’s been “awake” for longer, she’s only truly had 14 days of what she calls “consciousness,” a word that continues to give her strength. She acknowledges that being alive and conscious, despite her body still healing, is God’s gift to her.

She said “my level of appreciation is beyond words”, and as her family, we can’t agree more. Elizabeth is a fighter, and she knows God’s mercy has been with her every step of the way since the moment of the accident. To say she is profoundly grateful is an understatement.

We are all incredibly humbled by the love, support, and prayers you continue to offer.
