NEW Do Jang Hats!
It has been more than 10 years since we have made a Hat!
Our newest design will be the full color Phoenix Logo with the Korean lettering for Tang Soo Do underneath, on a grey hat.
There will be 2 hat options: 1-a traditional trucker style and 2-a soft fit. Images are attached and order lists are available at both schools.
We are also working on Spring T-Shirts, a 2-tone shirt with the Phoenix Logo on the back and the Eastern Shore Logo on the Chest.
It would be Great for us all to wear these at the Annual Picnic in June!

Chesapeake Bay Invitational
The Perfect Tournament to WIN AND to LEARN
Fantastic! Amazing! Fun! Educational!
There is so much to say…there is so much to share… Over the years of co-hosting the tournament with Master DePaolis we have had schools attend form other styles of martial arts… other ITF schools from Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York and Texas… we have only ever had between 80-100 competitors. This year, we had nearly 120 students attend, and it was only Eastern Shore Schools and Synergy schools! We Thank You All for making this such an Exciting Event!
Aside from the Energy of Friendly Competition, the Excitement of making New Friends and the Spirit of Family we have with our Tang Soo Do brothers and sisters…there is So Much We Learn about Ourselves and From Each Other at an Event like this!
As a Master/Mentor/Coach/Teacher it is at best difficult to put into words the Feelings Experienced when watching students overcome Fears, Challenges, Disappointments and Set-Backs. Seeing the Elation in their Eyes and Hearing it in their Voices when they achieve something that they doubted in themselves. Yes, we also must have the conversations to Encourage students to get past the disappointment of a missed board break or not doing their best in forms, weapons or sparring, but those setbacks teach us to reach new levels within ourselves and to find the strength and courage to push past the distress and rise above them, like a Phoenix out of the ashes.
In truth, some of my favorite and most memorable moments of the day weren’t the outright wins of my students taking 1st place in their competitions, but the string of students who came to me at the end of the day with their unbroken boards and asking me to help them go home with them broken, with the sense of achievement knowing that they did not let that board beat them and that they overcame a challenge that universe put before them, starting with the first one that had the courage to ask me to hold it for her so that she could go home with that sense of accomplishment.
Lessons Learned for even me…Practice my own board breaking techniques more regularly; don’t attempt to break 3-boards with a technique never practiced on a whim; that I don’t have to be the best in the room to inspire my students; and most importantly…don’t ever stand in front of a Taco stand in high winds in a brand new uniform (worn for the very first time)! LOL
There are more tournaments to attend this year, if you didn’t attend this one. In the meantime, ASK anyone who did attend about what they Learned!

“Experience is a Great Teacher…in Fact, the Best!”
“Competition with others is still competition with Yourself!”
“Enriching your Martial Arts Training with Tournament Participation is an important Experience in your development as a Tang Soo Do practitioner!”
I Personally Stand Behind Every One of these Statements…no matter how cliché they may be! Positive Reinforcement aside…our Choong Jae Nim (Master CS Kim) always attends this tournament (he and Master Yi trained together in Korea under Supreme Grandmaster Hwang Kee), and it is a Great excuse to get to see him and spend time with this Amazing Martial Arts Legend. If there were No Other Reason to go…this is enough.
