Korean Word of the Week
By BKS Faith
Word: 꾸준합 (kku-jun-hab) Consistency
Phrase: 꾸준히 하면 실력이 늘어요
(kku-jun-hab ha-myeon sil-ryeo-gi neu-reo-yo)
If you practice consistently, your skills will improve
Diving Deeper: Consistency is important because improvement happens through repetition. You do not become good or proficient at something by just trying it a few times until it looks good. It takes time and dedication for you to learn and build your skills. In Tang Soo Do, we do not just do things once, especially when learning a new technique. We learn it by practicing repeatedly until each movement becomes more familiar and natural. It starts to smooth out even while you add power and speed. You are building muscle memory as your body starts to remember the technique, your movements become more natural, and your confidence grows. When you want to move up to the next rank, it’s not one great class that will get you there. It is showing up to classes, practicing on and off the mat, listening to the corrections and lessons along the way that add to your progress. You will not see progress overnight; it takes time and dedication but keep coming to class and do your best. Something to try is to find one new thing you’d like to improve each week. Months from now you will see how much you have improved.
Challenge: Try to use the Phrase of the Week at the 도장 (Do Jang)! 가족! Thank You! Tang Soo!!!
