True Meaning of Ki Ahp: 5- Breath Coordinating your Breath with Technique

Korean Word of the Week

By BKS Faith

Word: 무결성 (mu-gyeol-seong) Integrity.

Phrase: 무결성은 말보다 행동으로 드러난다.

(mu-gyeol-seong-eun mal-bo-da haeng-dong-eu-ro deu-reo-nan-da) Integrity is revealed through actions, not words.

Diving Deeper: Integrity is not about being perfect. It is about staying true to strong morals and honest principles, even when no one else is watching. When you make a promise, you keep it. When you make a mistake, you own up to it. You stay honest even when its hard and it may not benefit you. It’s easier to follow the mob mentality and the choices others make while it’s harder to do the right thing. You have a responsibility to follow your morals ethics. Throughout your life, you may lose friends or colleagues who don’t have the same principles and values. There may be times in life that you may have to choose what will make you a better student, daughter, son, wife, husband or friend and be obedient to your responsibilities. Maintaining integrity in the world we live in may seem like a difficult task especially when it is easier to take the road that already has been paved. There will be times in your martial arts journey that you will need to decide what path you will want to take, what is right for you and just like in life you will need to make a decision and that decision will be revealed through your actions. Many of the decisions we make may not have instant results but will still be impactful in our life choices. Everyday we have small choices to make. When we choose what is right, even when it’s difficult, we are building integrity.

Challenge: Try to use the Phrase of the Week at the 도장 (Do Jang)! 가족!

Training Visit with Master Okyen

We had a Great Training/Visit weekend with SBN Michael Okyen!

If you were in class Friday/Saturday, then you experienced another perspective on warm-ups, class, and just training alongside another Master in the ITF. It was a lot of Fun! After everyone else went home from lunch on Saturday SBN Pagano and SBN Okyen continued training until 6:30 PM, feeling satisfied that we are well on our way to being prepared for our respective tests in October, identifying things that we need to improve by then.

We hope that it will not be so long before he visits again, perhaps for longer next time. Tang Soo!!!
